چکیده

The aim of the present study was to describe the beneficial health effects of probiotic bacteria, manifested by inhibition of growth of pathogen microorganism strains and that of their colonization of the gastrointestinal tract of humans. The primordial mode of action by which a probiotic eradicates a pathogen can be facilitated by the production of antimicrobial substances such as bacteriocins, organic acids, and hydrogen-peroxide. Lactic acid bacteria and pathogens compete for receptor sites at the intestinal surface. Competition for these receptors will diminish the opportunity for pathogenic colonization and thus protect the host from infection. Many of the probiotic effects are mediated via immune regulation, in particular by the control of the balance of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines.

Taxonomy and systematics of plant probiotic bacteria in the genomic era

Recent decades have predicted significant changes within our concept of plant endophytes, from only a small number specific microorganisms being able to colonize plant tissues, to whole communities that live and interact with their hosts and each other. Many of these microorganisms are responsible for health status of the plant, and have become known in recent years as plant probiotics. Contrar...

Modulation of Intestinal TLR4-Inflammatory Signaling Pathways by Probiotic Microorganisms: Lessons Learned from Lactobacillus jensenii TL2937

The intestinal mucosa plays a critical role in the host's interactions with innocuous commensal microbiota and invading pathogenic microorganisms. Intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and gut associated immune cells recognize the bacterial components via pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) and are responsible for maintaining tolerance to the large communities of resident luminal bacteria while b...
